Serbs in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNK) became a constituent people, and Bosniaks received the Bosnian language and script.
This was achieved by adopting amendments in the Assembly of the Croatian National Theater in Mostar, which also changed the Constitution of the canton. The amendments were adopted with 26 votes in favor, while only the president of HRS, Slaven Raguz, was against, and three deputies were absent, writes the “Kliks” portal.
The Deputy Chairman of the HNK Assembly, Tomislav Martinović (HDZBiH), emphasized that the majority of Croatian deputies in the Assembly raised the issue of adopting amendments to the Constitution concerning the constitutivity of the Serbian people.
– This is a continuation of the consistency of our policy, which goes in the direction that all constituent peoples feel equally and equally in every part of the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina and that they can equally consume their rights – said Martinović.
He pointed out that this means that the problem of legitimate representation is included in that issue, and he expressed hope that today’s decision will have a wider impact when it comes to changes to the Election Law. Martinovic added that the party will be absolutely consistent in its efforts to ensure that the representatives of the constituent peoples manage their own political destiny.
SDP MP in the HNK Assembly Vesna Saradzic reminded that a long time has passed since the club of Serb deputies in the Assembly of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton in 2016 sent amendments to the Canton Constitution to correct its discriminatory provisions that do not recognize Serb citizens in that canton.
She added that shortly after that, the Bosniak club did the same and that then the amendments were united, and everything resulted in the verdict of the Constitutional Court in 2018.
– During that time, we constantly tried to put it on the agenda, but we never even managed to get it on the agenda, let alone discuss it – said Saradžić.
She pointed out that it always went to the opinion of the Government of the Croatian National Theater and that it never gave its opinion, and that now, when the majority of the club of delegates from the HDZ sent it, the Government acted expressly.
The decision to change the Constitution will take effect today, and the government’s expert services will publish it in the next 15 to a month at the latest in the official newspapers of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, reports Tanjug.
