In order to encourage as many people in Australia as possible to be vaccinated against kovid, the airline Kvantas decided to offer a number of benefits when buying airline tickets, for everyone who received the vaccine.
According to the first man of Quantas, Alan Joyce, the rewards for the vaccinated will include points for flights, credits and a chance for a one-year free trip. This program of the Australian carrier should start in July.
– We plan to give 1,000 Quantas points, flight vouchers, loans and we will offer ten “mega” prizes, at least one for each country and territory – Joyce pointed out.
Everyone who receives the vaccine by the end of 2021 qualifies for one of the Quantas awards, including a trip for a family of four in the next year within the Quantas and Jetstar network.
In addition, the catering company Akor will offer one million points to each of the winning families to cover their accommodation on the selected trip.
Joyce also called on other companies to follow their example and explore what they can offer to encourage people to opt for the vaccine.
The head of Quantas did not want to comment on the Federal Government’s decision to extend the ban on international flights, but admitted that the company has “its own interest” in as many vaccinated Australians as possible, given that immunization will be a key factor in opening external borders.
When viewed in this way, it is completely clear why Quantas decided to reward the vaccinated. Namely, the company has an economic interest in opening the borders as soon as possible, so that they can continue with business, and if vaccination is the only way to open the borders – they are ready to encourage vaccination with prizes.
The method of rewarding for the received vaccine is not an unknown practice in the world. The American state of Ohio has introduced a five-week lottery, and among the prizes is – one million US dollars.
Also, the Government of Serbia promised a gift of 3,000 dinars (40 dollars) for everyone who receives at least one dose of the vaccine by May 31. The idea was to vaccinate as many people as possible so that life would return to normal.
When we take into account that the average salary in Serbia is 60,000 dinars a month, it means that the vaccinated are promised five percent of the average salary. Transferred to Australia, where the average monthly salary is less than 7,350 dollars, five percent would amount to 368 dollars.
Why some entrepreneurs in Serbia offered vaccinated people free lunch, cakes, drinks, financial incentives for employees, while some shopping centers announced vouchers for those who are immunized in these facilities, can be justified by the economic interests of these companies to start life as soon as possible , and thus consumption will increase.
Academician of the University of Belgrade, Zoran Radovanović, stated for the international medical journal “The Lancet”, that this money could convince “poorer individuals” to overcome the hesitations related to the vaccine.
– But, it is also natural that many people think: “If I am given money for vaccination, this vaccine is not good. There is a risk and a price has been set for that risk “- Radovanović pointed out.
How much rewarding can influence people’s decision to get vaccinated remains to be seen, but some are still in favor of introducing a tried and tested method, which is mandatory vaccination.
So recently, the Australian Association of Doctors requested that the vaccination of everyone who wants to travel abroad be mandatory and a condition for someone to be allowed to leave the country.
So far, the state has not introduced mandatory vaccination, nor does it have stimulative measures, as is the case with vaccines against other diseases that children receive. Namely, parents are denied child allowances and the right to enroll their children in kindergarten if they refuse to vaccinate their children with regular vaccines against various diseases.
But Australia’s chief medical official, Paul Kelly, said that the health authorities did not reject the introduction of incentives in Australia to speed up the vaccination against kovid, especially before the flu season begins.
“I think we really need to look for incentives so that as many people as possible get vaccinated,” Kelly said.
