Ioannina Metropolitanate – Information on-line
HM Vujičić
They receive new duties: Bishops Jovan and Joanikije
Tomorrow, the participants of the Spring Assembly of the Serbian Orthodox Church will vote for vacancies in two metropolitanates and one diocese, but also elect new hierarchs from the ranks of worthy monks..
“Vesti” came to a complete list of proposed candidates for the highest titles and positions within the Serbian Orthodox Church.
Most of the public’s attention is focused on the election of the new Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral. According to the information of our paper, only one candidate will be proposed for this position – the current bishop of Budumljan-Niksic, Joanikije (Micovic), who is also the administrator of this metropolis.
The former bishop of Buenos Aires, Kirilo (Bojović), should be appointed in his place.
In the only Serbian diocese in South America, he will be succeeded by Bishop Stefan (Šarić), the vicar bishop of Remezija and the former elder of the Temple of Saint Sava in Belgrade.
The Parliament will also vote for the new bishop of Valjevo, and the only candidate is Bishop Isihija (Mohić), the current vicar bishop of Mohács.
A decision will also be made on the new Metropolitan of Zagreb and Ljubljana, who should succeed the newly elected Patriarch Porphyry, and Bishop Jovan (Ćulibrk) has been proposed.
Petar (Dragojlović), abbot of the monastery of the Holy Archangel Gabriel, has been proposed for the position of bishop in his former Slavonian diocese.
Apart from him, Archimandrite Justin (Jeremic) from France, who should perform the duty of auxiliary bishop of Western Europe, but also hieromonk Jerotej (Petrovic) from the Kovilj monastery, who was nominated for the vicar bishop of Bac, was also proposed for future archbishops.
Hieromonk Sava Bundalo, a brother of the monastery of St. Petka in Zagreb, was proposed for the future vicar of the Serbian patriarch. The final decision on whether all these worthy bishops and monks will be elected to these positions still depends on how the present participants in the Parliament will vote. Let us remind you, the Serbian Church elects its metropolitans and bishops on the principle of voting, and everyone who receives a two-thirds majority of the present bishops is elected. New bishops are elected in the same way, with each competent bishop having the right to propose one or two worthy candidates from the ranks of monasticism.
This principle also applies when it comes to the retirement of sick or “controversial” bishops.
Our source does not rule out the possibility that in case of failure, the vote on some personnel decisions will be left for the next Parliament.
There is also speculation in the sphere of whether this Parliament will decide on the division of some bishoprics, and the separation of the archbishoprics of Belgrade-Karlovac, Zvornik-Tuzla, but also one of the diaspora dioceses was mentioned. Also, the plan is to elect a vicar bishop of the military, who, unlike the previous practice, would be exclusively in charge of implementing the law on religious service in the Serbian Army. Unofficially, it can be heard that at this Council, His Holiness, Patriarch Porphyry, will receive at least two more vicar bishops.
On the last day of the Assembly, on Saturday, before the memorial service for all the founders and benefactors of the Temple of Saint Sava, the report on the construction of the largest Serbian shrine in the world should be considered and adopted.
