It’s been a long time, and Microsoft has finally announced when it will pull Internet Explorer. The company will withdraw the IE11 PC application on June 15, 2022 on most versions of Windows 10.

Internet Explorer has been part of the Windows system for more than a quarter of a century. However, since the introduction of Edge in 2015, Microsoft has been slowly phasing out the old browser. Support ended with the previous version in 2016. Microsoft 365 and other applications will stop supporting IE11 on August 17.

Microsoft has invited users who still hold IE11 to switch to Edge (or another browser, if they wish) before ending support next June. Edge has a built-in Internet Explorer mode for sites that still need IE. Many organizations still use old apps and websites that don’t actually work with modern browsers, so this mode will be useful. Microsoft says it will support Edge’s IE mode at least until the end of 2029, giving organizations and IT departments a few more years to transition from those old web applications.
