While Pablo Escobar was the son of a humble farmer and teacher, Maria comes from a much more prestigious family. She was only 13 when they met, and she married at 15. She was 11 years younger than him.

Mary remains a kind of mystery today. Nobody knows where he is. It is assumed that she is also in Argentina, since her children are still in that country. But there are also some claims that she moved to North Carolina, USA, under a different identity.

Her last public appearance was in the 2009 documentary “Sins of my father”, in which Juan Pablo sought redemption for his father’s behavior.

They say that behind every powerful man stands a great woman, but since she still lives under a pseudonym 20 years after his death, it is clear that Maria and her entire family paid a huge price for the criminal life path that Pablo chose.

The series “Narcos” presents Maria Victoria as a loyal and calculated partner of her husband. She fell in love with him in her teens for a completely different reason.

– I fell in love with his desire to help other people and his empathy for those in need. The two of us drove to poor areas and dreamed of building schools for the poor there. From the very beginning, he was always a gentleman – she said and her son recounted.

Her parents, of course, tried to prevent each other from seeing each other, considering him simple for Maria. She was stubborn and rebellious. They loved each other, got married, had two children, even though he was unfaithful and loved other women as well.

After Escobar’s death, Maria and their children fled to Buenos Aires, fearing retaliation from rival drug cartels. Argentina gave them asylum, and she changed her name to Maria Isabel Santos Caballero. Before that, the family traveled to Mozambique, they also begged the Vatican for help, but they were refused.

Even with a new identity, life in Argentina was not easy. Hours after their presence in the country was publicly revealed in 1999, Maria and Juan Pablo were arrested on charges of money laundering.

Not wanting to give up their luxurious life and the alleged one billion dollars they had from the drug cartel business, they escaped without consequences. Detectives later said they would not have arrested them so early had their identities not been revealed. Maria, on the other hand, claimed that the entire investigation and arrest were politically motivated.

Since both of her children still live in Argentina, there is a good chance that she still lives there, secretly, and maybe operated on.
