The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Nikola Selaković, talked today in Rabat with the President of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Morocco, Habib el Malki.

Selaković stated that the bilateral relations between Serbia and Morocco are very good, friendly and that they are characterized by mutual understanding and trust.

He said that there are no open issues between the two countries and expressed readiness to continue improving cooperation and further intensifying political dialogue.

The head of Serbian diplomacy thanked Morocco for its principled position regarding the non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo and active support for Serbia’s efforts to preserve its territorial integrity and sovereignty.

He emphasized that Serbia highly appreciates Morocco’s support in international organizations on that issue, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

Selakovic also pointed out that Serbia is committed to strengthening peace and stability in the region of North Africa and the Maghreb, and that he highly appreciates the contribution and key role of Morocco in achieving those goals.

He pointed out that Serbia supports the efforts of Morocco in resolving its issues of national importance through a dialogue that strives for fair, realistic and sustainable solutions, based on international law.

When it comes to parliamentary cooperation, Selaković pointed out that it is a very important segment of cooperation and said that very good communication has been achieved in that area, which should be continued.

He also mentioned that the encouragement of this cooperation is given by the existing friendship groups in the parliaments, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding between the two Parliaments, which was signed in 2018.

Speaking about the improvement of the overall cooperation between the two countries, Selaković especially emphasized the readiness of Serbia to further develop and expand its economic relations with Morocco, which includes the increase of trade exchange, which does not follow the level of excellent political relations.

He also said that Serbia is interested in Moroccan experiences in developing economic cooperation in the African market, noting that Serbia sees Morocco as a gateway to economic access to this important market, but also as a bridge to grow the partnership with Morocco into a partnership with the African continent.

Selakovic said that Serbia is committed to joining the EU, but also to pursue a policy of cultivating friendship with Russia and China, the countries of Africa, Latin America and the Arab world.

The Minister informed El Malki that Serbia and Belgrade are preparing to mark the 60th anniversary of the first summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in October this year, and that they would be honored by the presence of Morocco.

Selaković and El Maliki discussed the kovid-19 pandemic, exchanged experiences in the countries’ fight against the virus and expressed readiness for further cooperation on that issue.
