Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic said that he would defend Montenegro from Greater Serbian nationalism by all means, but also that he believed that he would do so in the institutions.
– Greater Serbia nationalism is trying to malignantly influence Montenegro under the new motto of the “Serbian world”, not giving up on Greater Serbia as a project whose name has only been changed – Djukanovic said in an interview with Montenegrin Television.
He said that in a very short time, Montenegro has gone from a country of reliable stability and economic prosperity and a country that cultivates multiculturalism to a country that is described as a potential hotspot in the Western Balkans.
– We must link that to the parliamentary elections in which there was a change of government. I don’t think the problem is in the change of government, I was aware that that moment was approaching, we went through the needle’s eye in 2016, there is no question that the change of government produced that instability. This was produced by the policy of the new coalition and the new government. That policy hit the fundamental values of modern Montenegro and endangered the very character of Montenegro as a civil state – stated Djukanovic.
He added that he was still optimistic that Montenegro would preserve security.
In recent days, citizens have blocked certain roads due to the government’s intention to change the decisions related to obtaining citizenship. The government, meanwhile, has temporarily suspended the adoption of those regulations. Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapic accused Djukanovic and the DPS of being behind the protests.
Djukanovic said that he is a strong advocate of institutional action and that he is a responsible man and that he does not want Montenegro in the chaos that will be managed outside the institutions.
