Milan Bandić fell ill late in the evening and was transported to the Sveti Duh hospital by ambulance. Doctors tried resuscitation, but without success, Index reports. The news was confirmed by the City of Zagreb.
“In deep sorrow, we are informing our fellow citizens, associates, friends, the Zagreb and Croatian public that the Mayor of the City of Zagreb, Mr. Milan Bandić, died suddenly of a heart attack today, February 28, at the age of 66,” the City Administration said.
As it is stated, Bandić lived for his city, for “the citizens of Zagreb who were in the first place in everything he did, for the job he performed with love and energy, bringing in his whole self – without the rest, for 21 years”.
The public will be informed about the details, the date of the funeral, the commemoration and other information later.
Bandic has had serious health problems for a long time, and in 2003 he had a severe stroke, according to the Index.
He was born on November 22, 1955 in Grude, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
