The worth system and willingness to switch the monarchy is the best legacy of Elizabeth II
In Dnevnik RTS, Ognjen Pribićević assessed that the most significant features of the reign of Queen Elizabeth, who passed away after 70 years on the thronean extraordinary willingness to modify the monarchy in accordance with the times, and the other to actually constantly have a very clear system of values, which held not only her, but also the Commonwealth and the monarchy through difficult times.
“It’s just a matter of how much her heirs, Charles and those who come after him to be able to be so ready to modify themselves, to help the monarchy to be modified, how much they will succeed in following what she left as probably her greatest legacy, precisely that one strong system of values”, assesses Pribićević.
Nevertheless, it reminds us that the period at the time of Princess Diana’s death was certainly the most challenging for the monarchy and for her, and that it will certainly remain the subject of research and work by historians as the time when the monarchy was certainly at its lowest level in terms of popularity.
“Huge role in branding Britain”
When it comes to Queen Elizabeth’s legacy in world politics, Pribićević says that her role is huge and can be seen not only in Commonwealth countries, but in all English-speaking communities.
He assesses that her role is big in, as he said, the branding of Britain.
“She came to the throne after World War II, when Britain is slowly losing the role it had before as an empire. That role is being taken over by the United States of America, but I would say that her role is great precisely because she is from that position, with the possibilities which were not too big, did a lot, perhaps the most important things in building what in today’s vocabulary we call a brand – the brand of Britain is, along with London and its personal name, one of the most famous brands in the world,” explained Pribićević.
“She was extremely well informed about what was going on here”
As for relations with Serbia, the former Yugoslavia and the Balkans, Pribićević states that the queen had very good relations with President Tito, who spoke with her several times.
“She came here in 1980, as one of the world leaders she was at Tito’s funeral. She was extremely well informed about what was happening here,” says Pribićević.
“She said – you have big floods these days”
The former ambassador says that he spoke with Queen Elizabeth several times and that he was always fascinated by the fact that in her 90s she has such freshness in her thoughts, ideas, that she follows everything that is happening so fantastically.
She remembers that she recognized him as a representative of Serbia on her birthday in 2014.
“She said – you have big floods these days, you’ve never had such floods in history. I said – your highness, you really follow everything. I follow everything, all the news from the world, I’m interested in that,” the queen remembers is a former ambassador.
