Paradise Drina attracts company from Serbia and the world

Until a few years ago, the banks of the Drina in its lower reaches from Ljubovia to Loznica were mostly visited by the local population. Because of the peaceful, but also rest in a specific environment, tourists began to come, especially during the pandemic, and in the last three years, dozens of holiday homes have been built on the 70-kilometer long coast.

“The beautiful Drina is heaven for the soul, the view of the Drina from here from the house is fantastic, so that’s what attracts guests, simply the Drina, and here for me it’s something unique here in Serbia, in our country, and that’s the house itself which is on the tree,” pointed out Jovan Cvijić from Loznica.

Halfway through its course from Azbukovica to Podrinje, the fast Drina was tamed back in 1954, when Zvorničko Lake was formed for the needs of the hydroelectric power plant. Nature has done its thing over time, and this place has become a unique oasis of peace. Tourism on the lake is still developing, and the locals are increasingly interested in catering.

“Guests came from all over Serbia, every day there was a demand for more blood, and on this occasion I really call on all people to expand their accommodation capacity so that we can receive all the guests next year,” pointed out Aleksandra Ilić, manager of the hospitality facility in Zvornicki the lake.

The highest demand for holidays near the Drina is in Ljubovia, where there are also the most accommodation units. Since the beginning of the summer season, about 20,000 overnight stays have been made in that town, and tourism has become one of the leading economic sectors in recent years.

“The measures of the Government of Serbia for the awarding of vouchers for staying in Serbia certainly contribute to a successful season, and certainly our natural beauty and our events that are organized on the territory of the Municipality of Ljubovija, I must refer to our biggest event, the Drina Regatta, which was extremely well attended this year.” said Jelena Tešić, director of TO of the Municipality of Ljubovija.

How attractive the Drina is as a destination, they say, is also shown by the fact that accommodation is reserved for next summer in almost half of the catering facilities and cottages.
