I consider that within the days forward we will discover a compromise resolution

The second part of the conversation between President Aleksandar Vučić and the EU special envoy for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, Miroslav Lajčak, and the US envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, ended 15 minutes after midnight.

Vučić, in an address on Instagram, said that the talks will continue, in the hope that some compromise solution will be reached.

“I believe that in the coming days we will be able to reach a compromise solution, at least for a small part, since it is clear that regarding the tables and some major issues such a solution cannot be reached at all,” said Vučić in a video address published on behalf of buducnostsrbijeav.

He added that even what he is hoping for is not certain, and that many guarantees and much more work are needed.

“But in the days ahead, we will work hard to preserve peace for our people and at the same time ensure the future for the survival of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija,” said the president.

The meeting was also attended by the US and EU ambassadors in Serbia, Christopher Hill and Emmanuel Giofre.

Vučić also met with Lajcak and Escobar in the afternoon, after which he stated that the talks were not easy and that they would continue at 10 p.m.

Before the meeting with the President of Serbia, Lajčak and Escobar spoke together with the director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Peter Petković.

Before the meetings in Belgrade, the EU and US special envoys spoke in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica with representatives of the Serbian List. Escobar said after the meeting that they considered the mayor’s concerns, while Lajcak said that good options are those that preserve peace and a normal atmosphere on the ground.

Lajcak and Escobar came to Belgrade from Pristina, where they talked with the representatives of the temporary Pristina institutions, in an effort to reach an agreement between Belgrade and Pristina, and in anticipation of September 1, when Pristina postponed the decision on the re-registration of license plates and identity cards.
